Founded in 1870, our company has consistently showcased its innovative spirit and expanded into a full-fledged marine transportation provider by 1874. This experience has allowed us to branch into various industries and achieve household name status by 1911.
This legacy of innovation and engineering excellence eventually extended into climate control technology, where Mitsubishi Heavy Industries continues to bring the same precision and reliability to every air conditioning unit we produce today.
In a decade of reconstruction following a difficult chapter in modern Japanese history, Mitsubishi has preserved its corporate identity while moving forward with a clear focus on its vision for the future.
Total air conditioner production reached 1 million units.
The FDT air conditioner was introduced to meet industrial needs as technology advanced rapidly.
Mitsubishi's first room air conditioner was created.
This was a period of rapid growth for Mitsubishi, especially in technology-driven products such as cooling systems, vehicles, aircraft, and engines.
During this period, several Mitsubishi business units had to be discontinued as part of an agreement. Yet this setback pushed Mitsubishi to bounce back even faster, introducing innovative products to meet commercial needs.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries was born from the merger of its combustion engine and aircraft divisions into a single business entity.
Yataro Iwasaki expanded into the shipping business and showed his patriotic spirit in 1874 by providing ships to transport Japanese troops to Taiwan. In gratitude for his service, the government awarded him 30 ships. Yataro later renamed his company Mitsubishi Mail Steamship.
Yataro Iwasaki, from the city of Kochi on Shikoku Island, founded his own shipping company, Tsukumo Shokai, with three steamships chartered from his family.
